An abundance has been talked in the press recently regarding the bingo industry being hurt because of the cigarette ban in Britain. Things have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for massive aid to assist in keeping the industry alive. However does the internet adaptation of this classic game present a salvation, or might it not compare to its real life kin?
Bingo is an established game historically played by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game recently had witnessed a recent increase in appeal with younger members of society opting to hit the bingo parlours instead of the bars on a Saturday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the introduction of the smoking ban across United Kingdom.
Players will no longer be allowed to smoke at the same time marking off their numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 all public places will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most popular areas where many people like to puff on cigarettes.
The outcome of the anti cigarette law can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already forbidden in the bingo parlours. Profits have plunged and the business is beyond a doubt fighting for its life. But where have the players gone? Certainly they have not given up on this enduring game?
The answer is on the web. Gamblers are now realizing that they can bet on bingo using their computer at the same time enjoying a drink and cigarette and in the end, enjoy big jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course gambling on on the web is unlikely to replace the collective part of heading down to the bingo hall, but for a group of people the law has left many bingo enthusiasts with no alternative.
