An abundance has been stated in the press recently concerning the bingo industry being hit as a result of the cigarette ban in England. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded huge tax cuts to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But can the web adaptation of this classic game provide a escape, or might it never compare to its bricks and mortar equivalent?
Bingo is an familiar game normally played by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game of late had witnessed a recent resurgence in appeal with younger members of society opting to go to the bingo parlors instead of the bars on a weekend. This is all about to be reversed with the legislating of the cigarette ban all over United Kingdom.
No more will gamblers be allowed to puff on cigarettes at the same time dabbing numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 all public places will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most popular places where folks enjoy smoking.
The results of the anti smoking law can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already illegal in the bingo halls. Numbers have plunged and the industry is absolutely fighting for its life. But where have all the players gone? Surely they haven’t forgotten this enduring game?
The answer is on the internet. People realize that they can gamble on bingo from their computer while enjoying a beer and smoke and still have a chance at massive prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course wagering on on the web can never replace the communal part of going down to the bingo parlour, but for a group of people the law has left many bingo enthusiasts with no choice.
