An abundance has been reported in the press not long ago about the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the smoking ban in England. Conditions have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded big aid to assist in keeping the businesses afloat. But will the online adaptation of this classic game present a salvation, or might it in no way compare to its land based equivalent?
Bingo is an established game usually played by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game recently had witnessed a recent resurgence in appeal with younger men and women deciding to hit the bingo parlors rather than the discos on a weekend. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the legislating of the cigarette ban throughout Britain.
Players will no longer be allowed to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking numbers. From the summer of 2007 all public locations will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most common locations where folks like to puff on cigarettes.
The effects of the anti smoking law can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already prohibited in the bingo halls. Players have plummeted and the industry is beyond a doubt fighting for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Obviously they have not forgotten this classic game?
The answer is on the internet. Players realise that they can enjoy bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a beer and cigarette and still have a chance at monstrous jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course wagering on online could never replace the social portion of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of players the law has left a lot of bingo players with little option.
