A lot has been stated in the press just a while ago regarding the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the smoking ban in England. Things have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded big aid to assist in keeping the businesses afloat. However can the internet variation of this classic game offer a reprieve, or will it not compare to its real life kin?
Bingo is an established game historically enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game of late had experienced a recent resurgence in popularity with younger people deciding to visit the bingo parlors instead of the discos on a Saturday night. All this is about to be destroyed with the enforcement of the smoking ban across UK.
No more will players be permitted to smoke at the same time dabbing numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 all public locations will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favorite locations where players like to puff on cigarettes.
The effects of the smoking ban can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already barred in the bingo halls. Numbers have dropped and the business is literally fighting for to stay alive. But where have all the players gone? Of course they haven’t deserted this ancient game?
The answer is on the internet. Gamblers realize that they can bet on bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a cocktail and cigarette and in the end, have a chance at big prizes. This is a recent development and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.
Of course wagering on on the net is unlikely to replace the collective part of going down to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of players the governing edicts have left a good many bingo players with no choice.
