A lot has been stated in the papers just a while ago regarding the bingo industry being hurt as a consequence of the anti smoking law in the UK. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive tax cuts to help keep the businesses afloat. But can the internet adaptation of this classic game offer a reprieve, or might it in no way compare to its real life kin?

Bingo is an classic game historically enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game lately had witnessed a recent increase in acceptance with younger men and women opting to hit the bingo halls in place of the clubs on a Friday night. This is all about to change with the legislating of the anti cigarette law across Britain.

Players will no longer be allowed to smoke at the same time marking numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 all public places will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most favorite places where players enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the cigarette ban can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo halls. Numbers have plunged and the business is literally fighting for its life. But where did the players go? Surely they haven’t deserted this classic game?

The answer is online. People realise that they can play bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a beer and smoke and still enjoy massive jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened almost perfectly with the anti cigarette law.

Of course betting on on the net is unlikely to replace the social aspect of going over to the bingo parlour, but for a group of people the governing edicts have left a good many bingo players with little choice.
