Much has been written in the papers recently regarding the bingo industry being hurt because of the anti cigarette law in England. Conditions have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded big tax cuts to assist in keeping the industry from going bankrupt. But can the online version of this classic game provide a lifeline, or will it never compare to its real life opposite?
Bingo is an classic game normally played by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game lately had experienced a recent return in appeal with younger people opting to hit the bingo parlors instead of the bars on a Friday night. This is all about to change with the introduction of the smoking ban around UK.
No longer will players be able to smoke whilst marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 all public areas will not be allowed to permit smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most popular locations where many people like to smoke.
The results of the anti smoking law can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already forbidden in the bingo halls. Players have plunged and the business is literally struggling for its life. But where have the players gone? Surely they have not forgotten this familiar game?
The answer is on the internet. Players realize that they can play bingo in front of their computer while enjoying a cocktail and smoke and in the end, enjoy massive cash rewards. This is a recent development and has happened almost perfectly with the anti cigarette law.
Of course wagering on on the net is unlikely to replace the communal portion of heading down to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of men and women the rules have left many bingo enthusiasts with little choice.
