Will the Anti Cigarette Law in England Drive Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Net? Will the Anti Smoking Law in England Drive Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Net?

An abundance has been talked in the press just a while ago regarding the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the smoking ban in Britain. Conditions have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big tax breaks to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. However can the web adaptation of this quintessential game provide a reprieve, or might it never compare to its real life relative?

Bingo has been an enduring game normally played by the "blue rinse" generation. In any case the game lately had undergone a recent comeback in appeal with younger people opting to hit the bingo halls instead of the discos on a weekend. This is all about to be reversed with the enforcement of the smoking ban around England and Wales.

No longer will players be able to smoke whilst marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 all public places will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most popular areas where people like to puff on cigarettes.

The effects of the cigarette ban can already be looked at in Scotland where cigarettes are already prohibited in the bingo parlors. Players have plunged and the business is literally struggling for its life. But where did all the players go? Obviously they haven’t cast aside this familiar game?

The answer is on the internet. People are now realizing that they can enjoy bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a cocktail and smoke and in the end, enjoy massive prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.

Of course betting on on the internet could never replace the social aspect of heading over to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of players the law has left a number of bingo enthusiasts with little option.
